MP3 Beau Haddock - Magnolia

"Nashville folk-popster employs bagpipe, harmonica, and a very groovy percussion into his Highland Rim sound. Vocally, he''s somewhere in James Taylor territory with some rootsy J.J. Cale tossed in for Southern spice. This whole album is enchanting."

Details:
This sweet disk screams to be discovered by the new Adult Contemporary Alternative radio format. Beau and his buds work a James Taylor/Dr. John groove like nobody''s business. The sounds are cool and jazzy or world beat ready. It''s so smooth, it would be impossible to dislike for any reason other than the fact that it has no raw edges... It is a beautifully consistent effort, with a denisty of songcraft that J.T. hasn''t had a grip on since at least ''Flag'' and a groovalicicous creole stompt that Dr. John lost track of after ''Gumbo''."

"I acquired this CD (Magnolia) immediately after attending Mr. Haddock''s concert, where he was accompanied by cellist Gary Tussing, featuring Mr. Haddock''s own compositions. His sound is refreshing in many ways, including his generally positive outlook that stands out among the prevalent whine of some Americana. Although he has his own distinctive style, occasional comparisons to James Taylor''s phrasing and timbre, as well as his evolving harmonic sophistication are inevitable. Mr. Haddock more than holds his own. James could do worse than to cover his material. Harvest Moon Night succinctly showcases Mr. Haddock''s songwriting, interpretive, and arranging skills, as he creates an evocative, haunting mood by managing the space of his sparse arrangement, and icing it with a Toots Thielman approach to his harmonica solo. Mr. Haddock has a rousing side as well, as evidenced by the irresistible Celtic-infused Distant Hills, and the satisfying Let Love Lead Your Way. Give this recording a chance, and you will surely feel better. How many CDs can offer that?"
