In July, 2008, Only the Earth Can Make a Tree was recorded in Rhode Island under the care and guidance of Casey Crescenzo and Andy Wildrick. The short album reflects the differing tastes of the band members who spent almost a year apart from each other prior to recording. The album and most of its songs were conceptualized and formulated over the internet, with each member writing their own parts and corresponding with each other across 3 cities. The eclectic and somewhat disjointed songwriting, the creative and pristine studio work of Crescenzo and Wildrick, and the powerful and sharp mastering of Carl Saff all come together to produce a collection of songs that are varied, yet concise. They stand individually and yet are still unified by a reoccuring presence of movement, melody and depth.
