Details:
In the classic style of the bard, Jim Hinton offers a vast repertoire of songs from decades of songwriting, arranging, and performing Irish and classic folk songs in pubs and coffee houses. He sings in a relaxed baritone and accompanies himself on guitar, mandocello and numerous other instruments. Jim’s knowledge as a folklorist and his ability as a storyteller add depth and relevance to his performance. His gently ironic sense of humor connects with listeners of all ages.

In a 2008 interview with folk magazine The San Diego Troubadour, John Philip Wyllie reflects on Hinton''s Celtic work: "I was eager to accept this assignment when I learned that Hinton had a reputation for performing Irish music. I was not disappointed ... His treatment of the traditional Irish songs ''Spancil Hill'' and ''Carrick Fergus'' from his aforementioned album [Things I''ve Always Known] further cemented his status as a gifted interpreter of Celtic music. It turns out that performing Celtic music is just one of the many things Jim Hinton does well. Such versatility is a real asset." And recently upon review of the CD Wyllie said: "Thanks for broadening my horizons with your latest CD. While I know a lot of Irish songs most of those songs were new to me. The ones that I had heard before were arranged so uniquely that they became almost new songs. Great job! John"

Jim Hinton began performing at coffee houses and in folk clubs and pubs in the San Francisco Bay area with headliners Dave Bromberg, Robin Williamson, Linda Ronstadt, and Leo Kottke. His was a featured act at O’Hungry’s in Old Town and then on to Irish music venues such as The Blarney Stone and The Patriot Game and Drowsy Maggie’s. His groups played numerous concerts at the North County folk club, The Old Time Café. During these years he toured extensively with The Steve Power’s Craft Festival traveling to venues throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona. Jim played frequently as a soloist at the various Blarney Stone pubs in San Diego. And later, Jim formed the band Strange Woods. As leader of the band, he led the group for 17 years, regularly at the Camelot Inn, and still plays with them for various events. Jim''s album ''Things I''ve Always Known'' released in 2007 has been a favorite in venues from San Diego to Windsor England. Jim''s recent inspiration for this CD of Celtic Story-songs includes a 2008 tour of England, Scotland and Ireland.
