After our first CD, “Emerging”, came out we were really itching to get into a studio to find out what a more pristine audio environment could do for us. “Emerging” was recorded live in the parking lot of the Kansas City SGI Center and the music was accompanied by the sounds of people and passing cars. We also wanted to get together a larger group of musicians, an “orchestra”. Through the generosity of our violin/theremin player, Michael LaGrega, we suddenly had studio time and we jumped at the chance. We added John Lomas on guitar synth, Charles Goff III on winds, percussion, toys and noise, and Michael who had been playing with us in Brother Iota. With seven guys and a great studio environment at L A Audio with Lynn Allred, we carried on the River Cow tradition—going chartless into the unknown land of music and bringing back the sounds living out there. Every “song” here was created on the spot, one gem after another without dubs, retakes, or written music. River Cow Orchestra improvises and sets the music free.
