Details:
Giles Field grew up in Traralgon, Gippsland and moved to Melbourne to further his music career. Looking up to the great artists on local label Candle Records, Giles has honed his own lyrical brand of Australian anti-folk from 10 years of bedroom recordings. His raw demos garnered the attention of producer Tim Oxley (Roger Loves Betty, Laura Imbruglia) and his wife Jodi Phillis (The Clouds). Together they have filled out the sparse sound of Giles''s music with full and inventive instrumentation while still capturing the raw essence and uniqueness that makes his songs unforgettable.
His debut album ‘Too Many Love Songs’ contains an eclectic mix of folk tinged pop, from poignant ballads (Beautiful Pain), witty novelty songs (23), up-tempo pop (Awkward, Oh Jessica!) and even a semi -spoken work piece (Supermarket Town).
The album sees influence from a long line of singer songwriters from Paul Kelly and Billy Bragg to Daniel Johnston and Darren Hanlon. It’s also a must for anyone still nostalgic over the halcyon days of Melbourne anti-folk as heard on Candle Records circa 2001. Check out his MySpace today!
