PADAM PADAM
(the sound of the clock in the little French salon)
plays songs of passion. . .French cabaret music, klezmer tunes, tangos and touch of Tin Pan Alley. . .with an edge.
Singer, Lisa Berkson Platt is an arts administrator by day and a cheeky cantatriz by night. Trained early on in opera, Lisa quickly gravitated to singing in the smoky underworld of cabarets and nightclubs where she feels at home to this day. A musical sponge, Lisa performs the music of many different cultures including Mexico, Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Portland and Appalachia. Always over extended and often creating havoc with her family, Lisa swears that come what may, she will never give up "The Band".
Barbara Bernstein, viola, guitar, vocals and political conscience, is a musician, composer and audio artist. Nationally known as a radio documentary producer and locally as a talk show radio host, Barbara has composed music for theater, dance and film. She has played in klezmer bands, orchestras and has performed her own compositions solo and with various fellow travelers. Barbara recently went through a weird electronic music phase, but now she just wants to play "real good music" again.
Jaime Leopold, string bass. Once a member of an illustrious acoustic band of the 1970s, today Jaime has far flung musical interests and influences: jazz, fado, flamenco, classical, C&W and southern fish fry soul shake to name but a few. A child of the 60''s (which means he is still a child) Jaime loves being the only male member in this women''s rights orchestra.
Kathy Fors, accordion, melodica, piano and alto horn. Kathy first used the keyboard as a weapon of sorts when she upset the business students in high school with her ability to type at impossible speeds. In those days the only thing worth squeezin'' was Charmin. Now, at last, the accordion has been elevated from Thing of Shame to Accessory par Excellence (italics!) -- and just in time, too, because Kathy is addicted to squeezing out everything from Polkas to Paiduskos. Today she is lucky enough to join in with this sweet yet maudlin cabaret quartet -- her heart beats Padam Padam every time she takes the stage.
