Details:
In mid 2007, Codebreaker’s full length album “Exiled!” was self-released…
Since then, the group has earned a fine underground reputation amongst crate digging nerds, fussy music critics & indie dance party circuits alike. Very few groups can lay claim to that. Their trademark sounds have earned high marks from the Washington Post, Pitchfork, gigs with the likes of Chromeo & Yelle to The Twelves, collaborations with Kathy Diamond, Hercules & Love Affair’s Nomi, french legend Marc Gauvin, with remixes from Miami Horror, Jimmy Edgar & Liquid Pegasus on the new imprint, Disco Demolition Records.
Well Codebreaker’s back with a criminally infectious 12″ summer single release, “Follow Me”
“Follow Me” manages to harness the best qualities of italo funk, disco, electro & early filter house, all under one roof…
So much so, that it grabbed the attention of The Juan MacLean (DFA/NYC), Bottin (Italians Do It Better/Venice) & The Outrunners (Valerie/FR) for remixing duties. The group’s brainchild/frontman Steven Hawley describes the single, “Shamelessly anthem-ic, warmly futurist, exciting & magical.” Codebreaker brings it live with a fierce & funky 4 piece band, and they bring it strong. It’s all killer, no filler, the shortest of attention spans become engaged & the party gets peaked.
Those who were fortunate enough to catch one of their SXSW showcases this last March, can attest to it.
Having previously shared the stage with the likes of Hot Chip, Phoenix, Chromeo, Outhud, VHS Or Beta & Datarock (among others) the group has been taking its show on the road - most recently playing at clubs such as the Mezzanine in San Francisco and the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C.
With “Follow Me” dropping in May, a whole host of collaborations, remixes from & for some of dance music’s most exciting, tasteful artists soon on the way, Codebreaker are leading the way in 2009. Follow them.
