Details:
Chooglin’s sophomore effort, Nice Place, Nice Party, Nice Folks, captures the band’s loud, fast, rump-shaking energy for which their live shows are famous. Recorded live at the legendary 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis on December 22nd, 2007, this trough of a rock ‘n’ roll feast is being released on the stalwart Minneapolis label Heart of a Champion.

Named by the City Pages as “BEST ALBUM OF THE PAST 12 MONTHS”, Chooglin’s eponymous debut was described as “as addictive and unstoppable—a bender that''s too good to park in rehab”. But their live shows were where they earned their reputation as a high-energy, lo-fi, no-frills garage-rock dynamo that one would expect of a group spun off from the Midnight Evils and an Exile on Main Street tribute band. With a live show braying to be captured on vinyl, Dave Gardner, Brian Herb, and John “the Killer” Miller were called in to record and mix; Heart of a Champion graciously offered support; and the Entry was booked. Finally, everything was mixed together with scads of panting fans and a mountain of booze, and the Nice Place, Nice Party, Nice Folks seed germinated like a bad, bad weed!

Chooglin’s horn section kick off the show—and the album—with a crowd-rousing version of the “Theme from Rocky” while the rest of the Chooglers take the stage to wild applause. Then, with a couple pile-driving flicks of the wrist, spastic drummer Shawn Walker starts off “Father Time”, and the entire joint is lit up like a Roman candle. On through the space-rock boogie of “Hot Links over the Vacancy”, the wise-guy soul of “Truckload of Trouble”, and the appropriately-titled “You Sucked the Life Outta Me”, the band roars past seven more songs like they’re being chased down by a pack of rabid tractor-trailers. Damn near forty minutes later, both the band and the delirious crowd are left tits-up drunk and wiggling their asses for more—and there ain’t a soul left who knows if she’s on foot or on horseback!

Heart of a Champion will also be releasing a split 7" single with Chooglin'' and Alabama band The Dexateens in the spring of 2009.

Finally, Chooglin'' has just finished recording their debut record, Sweet Time, for Big Legal Mess/Fat Possum Records, slated for the summer of 2009. The record was recorded at the legendary Creation Studio in south Minneapolis by Tom Herbers and Fat Possum''s Bruce Watson.
