This beautifully produced 2 CD program on the life and poetry of Norway’s great playwright, Henrik Ibsen, the “Father of the Modern Drama”, is informative as well as entertaining. That Ibsen wrote poetry as well as plays is not well known, and his poems are narrated here for the first time in English. The text has been written by Trond Woxen, and produced and edited by Astrid Ogilvie. The poems presented here have all been translated by Trond Woxen from the original Norwegian. Several of these poems are accompanied by the haunting tones of the music of Norway''s well-known composer, Edvard Grieg.
The CD is narrated by Trond Woxen who is an actor (Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, Equity) as well as a director, writer, and translator. Trond’s masterly translation of Ibsen’s long poem "Terje Vigen" has received much acclaim, and he is well known for his dramatic renditions of the poem in both Norwegian and English. In addition to "Terje Vigen", Trond has translated many of Ibsen’s other poems such as: Kong Håkons Gildehall (“The Grand Hall of King Håkon”); Abraham Lincolns Mord (“The Murder of Abraham Lincoln”); Lysredd (“Afraid of the Light”); Spillemenn (“Fiddlers”); En Svane (“A Swan”); Borte (“Gone”); En Fuglevise (“A Birdsong”); Stamboksrim (“Album Memories”); and Med en Vannlilje (“With a Waterlily”). These may all be found on the CD.
