Bob & Lynn Dixon
Old-Time Songs and Tunes

Bob and Lynn Dixon, a husband and wife old-time music duo, have been singing together ever since they met. They are known for their tight harmony singing along with expert accompaniment on various combinations of guitar, fiddle, and mandolin.

A typical Bob and Lynn show features songs from the old-time tradition, including songs from the early days of recording by the Carter Family, Charlie Poole, the Delmore Brothers and others, songs from long before recordings were around, and new ‘old’ songs from current songwriters. Topics are timeless ones of lost love, hard times, trains, outlaws, cowboys, leaving home, and epic disasters. They also mix in lively instrumentals—jigs, reels, and waltzes, as well as Swedish ganglats and schottisches.

Bob plays guitar, mandolin, and what he calls ‘old-timey’ 12-string. Lynn plays fiddle and backup guitar. Bob has won awards in the the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA) state guitar flatpicking championships. Together they have won awards for their duet-singing. They have participated in instrumental and singing workshops with old-time masters such as Jody Stecher and Kate Brislin, Bruce Molsky, Paula Bradley, Alice Gerrard, Kim and Jim Lansford, Chirps Smith, and Brad Leftwich.

Bob and Lynn have performed at many MBOTMA events, including the Homegrown Kickoff. They have performed at the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts, Dulono’s Pizza, Bill Cagley’s Roots Showcase, Twin Cities Radio on the Net, and private events; they can be heard frequently around Minneapolis and St. Paul. See their website https://www.tradebit.com for their schedule. Their first CD, Blue-Eyed Boatman, was released in March 2009.
