Nasir Dickerson, B.A., M.A. the youngest son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert H. Dickerson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Camden, New Jersey. He is a 2002 graduate and 4th of his class in Camden High School. He has achieved high academic accomplishments, especially, in math, science and music education. He was a member of the National Honor Society, with perfect attendance, and has been the president of his class since his freshman year. Nasir has also earned many academic scholarships and awards, such as the Alexander Oaks Award, which was given to the number one senior student who has won the respect and approval of the administration, faculty, staff and student body, for academic scholarship, character, personality and athletic interest. Nasir was accepted into the University of the Arts, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Music Performance in May of 2006. May of 2007 Nasir, earned and received his Master Degree in MUSIC EDUCATION at the UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS, with high academic honors.
Nasir has been playing and studying musical instruments, such as the tuba, tenor, baritone, alto and soprano saxophones since the second grade. He is also a World Champion 5th Degree Master Black Belt in Karate and a member of a Discipline Military Style Drill Team called the World Champion UPK Pasha Generals. Nasir is also a key member of the Universal African Dance & Drum Ensemble, which is famous for its electrifying drummers, sensational dancers, exciting acrobatic show, and masquerade.
Nasir was born into the Arts, Martial Arts and Music. Nasir=s musical career began in the second grade on the trumpet, then clarinet and he soon found his place playing the Alto saxophone in the fourth grade.
Nasir learned to play the Alto and Baritone saxophone in middle school with his school teacher, Mr. Charles Elliot.
In the eighth grade Nasir was introduced to his very first private teacher, Mr. Charles Bowen Sr. by his older brother Jamal Dickerson. Mr. Bowen=s influence on the tenor sax, lead Nasir to pursue his future saxophone playing primarily on the tenor saxophone.
Participated in the Camden All City Fine and Performing Arts program all four years of high school.
Nasir became a member at the Philadelphia Clef Club in 1998, through his God-Father, Mr. Leon Mitchell, musical director for the Philadelphia Legends of Jazz Orchestra
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
1998, Nasir attended Camden High School, where he began to learn brass instruments such as the Baritone, Tuba and Sousaphone, while participating as band captain in the school marching band.
Summer 2000, Nasir opened for trumpeter Dr. Donald Byrd.
Summer of 2001, Nasir opened for Mr. Wallace Roney.
In 2002, Nasir graduated in the top ten of his class, receiving a full scholarship to The University of the Arts, at which he is pursuing a Master=s Degree in Music Education.
Summer 2002, Nasir Opened for Mr. Jimmy Heath.
Fall 2002, Nasir formed Jazz group called the RENAISSANCE MESSENGERS.
2003, Nasir opened for the Cyrus Chestnut trio.
2005, Nasir opened for the Trane Stop Program, A Search of a New Land Quintet(Duane Eubanks, Jymie Merritt, Mickey Roker, Stanley Wilson, Sid Simmons)
In 2006 Nasir, graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor Degree in Music Performance and continued working towards his Master''s Degree in Music Education
2006, Nasir recorded his first Jazz CD - JOURNEY TO FATHERLAND.
In May of 2007 Nasir, earned and received his Masters Degree in MUSIC EDUCATION at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with high academic honors.
Nasir constantly expresses his love and appreciation for the UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS and especially to his professors and teachers at the University of the Arts. His appreciation is manifested in his love of the arts and the fact that he has chosen music education as his career.
Some of the professors and teachers who has been his inspiration are, Mr. Ronald Kerber, Tony Salicondro, Chris Farr, Danny Muller, Ben Schachter, Dennis Wasko, Tony Miceli, John Swana and Trudy Pitts.
