By the time she was done, Lauren''s first album WHEN taught her a lot about herself & where she''s been in the past few years. "A lot of these songs weren''t just written for this album. They come from my time abroad in England, from the growing up I was forced to do in my senior year of college, & from when I got married."
You may ask yourself...what''s it like to listen to WHEN? Imagine a rich tapestry of music that washes over you & sucks you into another world...where sexy, seductive vocals are woven together with melodic harmonies & medieval bass lines. There are some splashes of jazz & electronica thrown in here & there to add distinction & variety. There''s a fullness & a soothing quality, like being wrapped in a voluptuous, velvety bubble of sound & emotion.
Lauren''s classically trained voice dominates throughout the album, pulling the rich orchestrations together. Her harmonies work together, not in competition with each other. The personal stories in each song tell of her own life, of the lives of her friends, & of the life that could be for a young, aspiring singer who plays the cello and listens to a lot of Tori Amos--maybe too much Tori Amos.
