Details:
The alt-country movement has been a blessing to those who mix rock and country, which is about asexact a description of the Ditchdiggers as you need. They definitely rock, but their hearts are well out in the country. A lot of the songs on Cow Patty Bingo work--"I Don''t Want to Know" is a standout--the guitars rip and the rhythm section rattles along like a freight train, and singer Chris Gray sounds at times like a rural Eddie Vedder (strangely convincing). There''s a lot to recommend about this record and perhaps there''ll be even more to praise on their next one. --Chris Nickson
