THE DREAM:
After the demise of the Huntsman''s Apology I was left with a feeling that not all I wanted to say had been said. Wanting to explore the more subtle byways of music, I dreamt of music that was not drum and bass driven, but reflective, dreamlike, innocent and most of all multi-layered. Providing the listener with a wealth of detail and surprise. Having thus established the outlines of those byways, the soft shoulders and hard white lines, the only question that remained was: who was going along on this ride???????????
THE MIRROR
Happily my ideas were mirrored by Eric''s and soon afterwards Titus. Putting Eric''s moving, intense and sometimes hallucinogenic lyrics to music gave me enough vision to take a left turn from traditional musical theory. By using seemingly random chord progressions I was able to underline each sentence with a musical backing that seemed to deepen, and at the same time, highlight the lyrical content. After months of hard work and sifting, during which great songs , vocal performances and musical ideas were thrown out of the window, a selection of songs remained that we all agreed were the ones to put to record. But who was going to record all this????????
THE MIRACLE
Titus role had at first been one of encouragement. However when the moment came to put it all to tape (hard disc really) He rose to the occasion and provided services beyond our wildest imagination. Undeterred by our demands that the guitar in bar 37 should have a bit more reverb and the piano be panned to the left, he just kept on working, putting in more hours than we can ever repay him . And so the miracle happened: what was at first a mere dream had eventually turned into something tangible and enjoyable, provided you keep it away from direct sunlight, music teachers and nagging Inn mates!!!!!!!!!!!
"A Dew Drop can exalt us like the music of the sun."
Yes (close to the edge)
"The only reward the musician receives is music: The privilege of standing in the presence of music when it leans over and takes us into its confidence."
Robert Fripp
