After earning Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Music, Mr. Herald joined the faculty of Wayne State University in 1978, teaching a variety of courses including music theory, arranging and orchestration. He was concurrently pursuing his interests as a composer and arranger. He left the University in 1984 to found GOH Co., Inc., a complete music production house. He is currently on the staff of Oakland University, Department of Music, Theatre and Dance where he teaches courses on film composition and audio techniques. Music Mundi, Mr. Herald’s instrumental ensemble, is completing work on their first CD release for Jumbie Records (https://www.tradebit.com). With dynamic concert performances of original compositions that are influenced by classical, Latin and World traditions, the group is quickly gathering a national following.

Mr. Herald’s activities include music production for the PBS Special Lionel Hampton-Back to Paradise, composing theme music for the PBS series Washington Week in Review, composing and producing music for the NBC Special Not Without Hope, and the orchestral score for the award-winning PBS Special Air Force One: the Planes and the Presidents, and the theme music for the Mr. Wizard Nickelodeon series Teacher to Teacher.

Mr. Herald’s accomplishments include a commissioned arrangement of We Shall Overcome for Orchestra and Jazz Band for the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra, arranging and producing the Christmas Images CD (RGM Records), conducting the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for guitarist Earl Klugh, and acting as the musical arranger for the 2000 CBS Montreaux Jazz Festival Special and composing the theme of the Emmy Award winning children’s show Bob’s Job. His collection of instrumental hymn tune arrangements is published by Concordia Publishing House and his Concerto for Flute, Guitar and Orchestra premiered in 1999. Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra, with Mr. Herald conducting, premiered his American Images July 4, 2004.

He composed music for ABC NFL Monday Night Football broadcasts and a two-CD collection of theme suites for NBC Dateline. In October, 2005, he premiered Variations on an Ancient Hymn for Flute and Orchestra. His original score for the documentary, Journey to Justice, which premiered in July 2006, has garnered critical acclaim and is soon to be released as a soundtrack recording.
