Mattie Jó Shéamuis Ó Fátharta is from Na hAille in Connemara, Co. Galway, and is a well-known and respected figure in music circles throughout this country and further afield. He is an acclaimed sean-nós singer, and won Corn Uà Riada, the All-Ireland sean-nós competition, in 2001. He is also a skilled instrumentalist, and plays flute and uilleann pipes.
This long-awaited debut solo album from Mattie contains a wonderful collection of songs, including local versions of An Bhó Bhán and An Sagart Ó Domhnaill. Of course, it also includes Mattie''s signature song BóithrÃnà an Locháin.
There is one track of lilting on the album and three tracks of music: a beautiful flute duet with Neansaà Nà Choisdealbha; and two tracks of sets of reels and jigs played by Mattie on uilleann pipes with Neansaà Nà Choisdealbha (flute), Aisling Nà Neachtain (harp), Johnny Connolly (melodeon), Luisne Nà Neachtain (fiddle), Micheál Deáirbà Ó Fátharta (melodeon) and Tommy Ó Méalóid (accordion).
