Details:
The Moments of Clarity’s current lineup emerged shortly after the heartbreaking and shocking deaths of two of the band’s closest friends in the fall of 2007 after finishing up 36 hours of recording on a ten track demo album. Most of the material was culled from songs that lead singer and songwriter Ryan McFarland had written in 2006 during his freshman year at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. After the deaths, the band dedicated the demo album to their two friends, Ben Schwartzman and Jason Specyal and had 1200 CDs pressed just for fun.

The band still has quite a few copies of that first album, In Loving Memory, lying around their collective houses. While thrilled that their first major recording project had produced such great material, the band knew they could do better. In early 2008 drummer Ralphie Crescenzo left the Moments of Clarity to attend class at the Univeristy of Chicago. So Ryan, keyboardist Nick Krol, and bassist Adam Turman formed the current Moments of Clarity with fellow Lake Central High School graduates Ed Hackman and Steve Kramer. With Hackman moving to bass, Kramer on drums, multi-instrumentalist Turman switching to lead guitar and saxophone, Krol ..boards and McFarland singing lead and playing acoustic guitar, the Moments of Clarity knew they had something promising.

In the summer of 2008, the group was ready to record again. But this time, instead of spending a frantic 36 hours nailing things down, The Moments of Clarity did things the right way. Recording with Dave Nelson at Tall Guy Studios in Lowell, Indiana, The MOC spent painstaking hours recording and mixing their newest album, It’s a Black and White World. With artwork contributed by excellent LA artist Mitchell Friedman, It’s a Black and White World was released in the middle of January 2009. It was a long time coming, but worth the wait.
