Nashville has a new sound and they call themselves MARUJAH. When most people think of Nashville they think of country music, cheating hearts and cowboy boots. MARUJAH is all about world sounds. Their music is a blend of several genres that work well together under a common lyrical ground. Their sold-out live performances are renowned for creating a whirlwind atmosphere and they are proud to tell all…”we are irreverent, outspoken and at times hilarious.” Their shows are all about what you feel and they want you to feel the power, the calm, the chaos and the groove, all at the same time.
MARUJAH is fronted by lead singer, lyricist and guitarist Enrique Madico; originally from San Diego, California who proudly sings in Spanish and English, mixing both languages so fluidly at times you may not realize he is switching the languages. His lyrics are inspired and influenced by Latin American existential poetry. By nature this style of poetry is cryptic using unusually twisted prose to create social commentary.
MARUJAH’S music has been described by their worldwide fans as “cutting edge Latin alternative rock that pulls from punk, reggae, ska, and 60’s psychedelic guitar music.
At the summer 2008 Latin Alternative Music Conference in New York City the band created such a fuss that producer Jake Caldwell (former drummer for Nashville platinum recording artist Phil Vassar) of Caldwell Studios agreed to produce their next CD, after attending one of their showcases. Previously the band released Wetback in 2007 and Great Pyramid Scam E.P. in 2008.
Currently in the studio with Harris, the band is encouraged with the collaboration. They are working to continue to carve out MARUJAH’S idea of what today’s alternative rock music can sound like. Scheduled for a 2009 release, Madico and his other band members Peter Barlow, bass; Jeremy Mason, lead guitars; Jake Caldwell, drums; and Joshua Cohcran, keyboards and synths are determined to make their mark in the global music market. Their goal is to bridge the gap between alternative rock music aimed to please the English speaking fans and the Latin speaking fans. Their already extensive fan base anxiously awaits the arrival of their next CD titled Lechuga del Diablo.
