Details:
Considered a blend of folk, jazz, blues and bluegrass, Heather Kelday writes in the creative spirit of indie-pop music, while rooting her songs in folk melodies. Heather’s strong voice, multi-instrumental talents (including banjo, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass and piano), and lyrical passion for the natural world carve a unique place for her in Canada’s music scene. In September 2007, after 6 years of touring and performing with bands "Barefoot'' and ''A Band of Owls'' she hit the road solo with an 2008 East Coast Music Association Showcase as a CBC Galaxie Rising Star, a featured artist in the In the Dead of Winter Festival in Halifax, live performances on CBC’s Canada Live, Atlantic Canada’s All the Best and Atlantic Airwaves and her first solo album “The Hitchin Post” to be released in March 2009.

Heather’s songwriting has spanned many genres over her ten year career in music. She began writing songs in 1998 and formed the folk/rock/jam band ‘Barefoot’ in 2001. Barefoot independently booked four cross-Canada tours and released three self produced albums including ‘Road 2’ in 2002, ‘The Rabelstein E.P.’ in 2004 and ‘Migration’ in 2005.

‘Barefoot’ changed its name to ‘A Band of Owls’ in the fall of 2006 when they released a self produced, independent folk//bluegrass album titled "Of wood and water, stars and song". Since its release, the album has been receiving nation-wide attention on CBC’s Vinyl Café and Fresh Air programs, as well as college and independent radio programs, and is featured on a compilation for the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto as well as a CBC Galaxie Rising Stars compilation CD for the East Coast Music Awards.

Whether on the road, in a local theater or hosting a barn show, Heather Kelday has co-billed and opened for artists such as Annabelle Chvostek, Craig Cardiff, Kim Barlow, Old Man Leudecke, David Myles, Mark Reeves, Mr. Something Something, Burt Neilson Band, Ember Swift, Brooke Miller and Luther Wright and the Wrongs.
Heather has also been featured in festival songwriting circles, accompanying and jamming with popular musicians such as Joel Plasket, Mary Gauthier, Annabelle Chvostek and Andrew White at the Deep Roots Music Festival in 2007, Rita Chiarelli and Guy Davis at the Live from the Rock Festival in 2007, The Wailin’ Jenny’s at Thundering Woman’s Festival in 2004, Bruce Guthro and Rylee Madison at the Ross Creek Festival in 2004, as well as a feature performance for the United Seed Savers Cooperative with guest Bruce Cockburn in February 2008.
