Darren McGinnis releases his debut CD What’s Your Story
nationally on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. At the young age of
24 critics say with hard work and ongoing support of the
Industry, Darren could be the next big thing in country
music in Canada.
Born and raised in Sussex, New Brunswick Darren McGinnis
quickly learned that he suited the “Simple Life” of a small
town. Darren was raised within a musical family with both
his father and grandfather as local performers, so it was only
natural Darren would experiment with music himself.
Darren grew up with influences such as James Taylor, Brad
Paisley, The Gibson Miller Band and Ricky Skaggs. These
three generations of McGinnis'' continue to perform on stage
together for special occasions. Darren is newly wed to
wife Trish, and is ''Dad'' to Blake and Addison.
Darren has won several awards and competitions but just to highlight a couple… in 2003 Darren
represented New Brunswick at the Canadian Youth Star Search held in Regina, Sask. In 2005,
Darren was chosen as New Brunswick’s Next Country Star and given the opportunity to perform
at the Gala Dinner during the Canadian Country Music Awards held in Calgary, AB. Since then,
he has opened for numerous artists including The Road Hammers, Doc Walker, Aaron
Pritchett, Duane Steele, Jamie Warren and Patricia Conroy.
“More Than Me”, his first single off this album was released to radio on January 12th, 2009. It is
extremely difficult for a brand new independent artist to break through at radio. By the time you
are reading this article, “More Than Me” will have received Top 30 status. It’s amazing! “More
Than Me” was written by Willie Mack and Lonnie Wilson. The album also includes a variety
of songs written by Darren McGinnis, Duane Steele, Willie Mack, and others. The title track was
written by Tommy Gilham and JK Gulley. Focused on family roots, heritage, and new beginnings
...it seemed appropriate for a debut album. Most importantly, each and every song on this album,
is different providing an opportunity to appeal to all demographics. This album was produced
by Jason Barry of Barrytone Studios in St. Clements, ON.
Jason originates from Miramichi, NB so it was nice to see such East Coast collaboration. Jason
has produced for Terri Clark, Aaron Lines, Charlie Major, and Jason Blane. The cover was
designed by the one and only Patrick Duffy. Nominated many times, Patrick has had several
CCMA award winning covers. Special thanks to the players on this album...Jason Barry, Melissa
Barry, Paul Chapman, John Diamond, Ken Post, Doug Johnson, and Steve O’Connor.
The CD release celebration takes place on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Imperial Theatre.
Special guests will include Duane Steele, Willie Mack and Jason Barry.
