His journey begins...
In the mid seventies, when revolutionary parties like the The Loft, The Gallery and later, Paradise Garage were defining the burgeoning culture, Andre was getting his 1st taste of NYC nightlife. At age 15, he started sneaking into The Gallery(legendary dj/remixer Nicky Siano''s residency), where he discovered his calling...& his tribe. He had to become a sound tech/engineer first. A Radio Shack turntable, 8-track and a cheap amp would have to do until his parents gave him his 1st set of pitch-controlled Technics turntables. His record collection began here too, growing to eventually include everything from alternative rock to house music. He''d play anywhere he was allowed, showing a commitment and tenacity that earned him a devoted following.
The 80''s would mark Andre''s ascent to the top of the underground dance music scene beginning with his ongoing relationship with legendary promoters Mike Stone and Charles Jackson, residencies and guest spots at the hottest venues(they included:Midtown 43, Tracks, The Marc Ballroom & the Tunnel). He received membership in the prestigious ''For The Record''
record pool and even served a stint as a Billboard reporter.
The 90''s opened new opportunities for him to play his passion. Successes included a celebrated residency at Better Days, where he shared the booth with his friend, the late David Cole(C+C Music Factory), who programmed the sampler. Collaborations with Charles Jackson led to rotating slots at Sound Factory Bar(with the likes of Danny Krivit and David Depino), as well as collaborations with Mike Stone, dj''s Kenny Carpenter and Kim Lightfoot, leading to guests spots at Club Vinyl. He earned appearances with industry titans Timmy Regisford(Shelter), Louie Vega(MAW/Vega), Teddy Douglas(Basement Boys) as well as late greats, Tee Scott & John Robinson. Gigs around the country followed. When promoters Mike Stone and Charles Jackson teamed up to open a club in the Bronx(where Andre was born & raised), Andre joined them and opened the Warehouse, that residency opened the doors for global success he long deserved.
The 21st century brought Andre success in the studio as well as the dance floor. In the fall of 2000, Rampage Records released his 1st mixed cd titled, "The 5 Boroughs Of Dance-The Bronx". Rampage disbanded before a second distribution could be made to meet the high demand. H&M retailers @ the time, said that Collins'' Bronx edition was the fastest seller of the 5 releases. It highlighted Andre''s energetic soulful style. In February 2001, his collaboration with Zone 7 Entertainment allowed West End Records to deliver his 1st remix, "Muzik''s Hypnotizin''". A 2nd remix, ''L.O.V.E.'' followed later that year. The success of the mixed cd, remixes and his residency at the Warehouse projected his status to an international level. He was invited to dj venues in France, Germany & Japan and was well received by the audiences in all 3 countries.
In 2005, King Street Sounds released his 2nd mixed cd, "King Of New York, Vol.2"-released exclusively in Japan;also well received. Currently he''s doing a live house music show every thursday from 12-3p called ''Universal Love'' @ https://www.tradebit.com. He also has a monthly sunday party in Harlem by the same name. Now, Zone 7 Entertainment presents Andre''s 1st produced single, "Madness (Pt.1)" co-produced by Z7E alum, Elegba''s Child. After 30 years of being on the pulse of house music...it''s his time. Listen and experience it for yourself...
