The Vision
It would take many years before Confusion saw daylight, even though pianist Dan Lindén and drummer Pontus Engborg''s history goes back 15 years. They worked together as musicians, talking about doing something of their own, but hadn’t yet found bandmembers with similar visions as themselves. But then, Pontus met Swedish guitar player Hans Johansson while working as a musician in Los Angeles. When they both returned to Sweden in 2004, they joined Dan''s recording project which was called Dan Lindén Quartet at the time. The project resulted in a self-entitled record in 2005. However, it wasn’t until they met bass player Martin Olsson that the idea for a fusionband became a reality.
The Concept
What inspired Confusion, was to achieve an equality among the bandmembers, in this case musicians who all had the ability to be great soloist in addition to being steady bandmembers. In 2006 Dan and Pontus co-wrote the first songs for the debut CD. All the band members co-wrote at some point in the process, and Martin was in charge of mixing and mastering what later became a full length album. The goal was to create music without any boundaries, and the album combines a blend of funk, rock and blues rhythms with jazz and latin influences.
The Birth
After nearly two years of putting Confusion’s debut album together, the release concert took place in November 2008 in Gothenburg. The long awaited release received a tremendous response from the audience, and Confusion, for the first time, sat their landmark not only as a recording band, but as an energetic live band. There is never really a dull moment when these guys play, and they manage to capture the essence of renewal in each song, making the audience witness nothing less than the magic of music in the making.
