Le Trio Gitan
Luciano Poli was born in Brescia in 1966. He studied under various teachers and has recorded with numerous bands. He is a teacher, guitarist, and composer.
Contrabassist Mauro Sereno, perhaps best-noted for his new-age recordings on the Azzura label, has participated in many music and film projects, and performed with various bands and musicians.
Vincenzo “Titti” Castrini, accordian player extraordinaire, also practically a household name in Italian country musicians, having worked and performed in countless projects and music festivals, brings the authentic and traditional nature of the accordion to this project, along with a few modern twists and turns of his own.
This CD is a wonderful assortment of traditional tunes, along with a few enjoyable surprises. Each musician contributes his own compositional talents to the mix, which results in a delightful, engaging, and entertaining collection of Italian gypsy folk jazz. Tracks of special note are: Poli’s “No Gigs,” a playful, lively excursion that changes moods and pace with grace and ease, “Ananda Waltz,” Sereno’s deeply moving and technically elegant contribution, and Castrini’s enchanting, swinging, high-energy infused “Walzerom.”
