COUNTRY: Country Rock, FOLK: Folk Pop

Details:
Wreckless Roots recording artists VOX americana! hail from Baltimore, MD and like to refer to their sound as "contemporary roots music" - that is, accessible and polished, but steeped in the rich traditions of American rock and roll, country, folk, and blues.

Together since 1999, Jim Bowley and Tracy Calhoun defy easy categorization, since their songs seem to embrace and fuse so many elements of American music. But on their self-titled debut CD, the common ingredients are remarkably easy to define - literate and thoughtful lyrics mixed with soaring vocal harmonies, a sprinkling of humor, and a touch of tragedy.

VOX americana!''s debut collection, produced by Jim Bowley and John Grant, features some of the finest talent in the Mid-Atlantic area and moves effortlessly through the rich and varied neighborhoods of the American musical landscape. There''s the swampy, Creedence-style "The Truth About You", the intimate, fingerpicked "Heights", the retro rave-up "I Couldn''t Love You Less" ("we like to call it ‘Lyle Lovett meets the Stray Cats in a spaghetti western movie''"), the alt-country ballad "Stain On My Heart", the E! True Hollywood Story of "American Beauty", the Mamas and the Papas-inspired "In A Different Room", and much more.

In addition, two songs from the CD have already garnered national recognition - the country-pop tune "When The Heart Says Yes" won a runner-up award from American Songwriter Magazine and the raucous rockabilly number "She Talks Like A Sailor (The Girlfriend Song)" placed as a finalist in the Best of Country 2001 Showcase in Atlanta, GA.

Jim Bowley has been singing and playing guitar in the Mid-Atlantic region for more than 10 years. He studies songwriting with award-winning writer Jon Ims in Nashville, TN, and has performed there at spots such as Douglas Corner and the legendary Bluebird Cafe. Jim is also a member of the Baltimore Songwriters Association. He has taught guitar privately and at Towson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education.

Jim''s guitar influences- Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, Larry Carlton - are classic, and his singer/songwriter influences - Bruce Springsteen, Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Steve Earle - are timeless. Tracy Calhoun made her mark in the pop/rock circuit, most recently with the band Who Struck John. Tracy''s passionate vocal style shows the musical influence of Melissa Etheridge, Aretha Franklin, and Patsy Cline.

VOX americana!‘s self-titled debut was released in June 2001.
