Details:
Lance Odegard is mean and nice. Lance Odegard plays guitar and trombone. Lance Odegard has skinny fingers and round cheeks. Lance Odegard is depressed and hopeful. Lance Odegard is a big mix.
A native of Camrose, Alberta, Odegard grew up playing violin in string quartets, trombone in jazz ensembles, guitar in church worship bands, and singing in choirs. Exposed to a wide range of music, Lance began writing his own songs while studying at the University of North Texas. But it wasn’t until returning to Canada, that Lance started to devote serious time and energy towards distilling his influences into his own perspective.
While attending Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, BC, Lance began playing his songs in coffeeshops, living rooms, schools and churches. He has shared the stage with Sheree Plett, Jonathan Inc., and Carolyn Arends. The new year will see Lance playing shows across western Canada.
In a world of mounting hype and veneer, Lance has given himself to the process of communicating with simplicity and substance.
There''s something that seems to sing in-between the notes of Lance’s folk melodies. His words carry the weight and wisdom of
something bigger than himself. Maybe it''s the fusion of vulnerability and conviction in his delivery that helps us believe again.
Or maybe it''s his ability to articulate what we feel and can''t say.
Lance''s live shows are inviting and disarming as he dissolves barriers between performer and audience. With a natural feel for hospitality and humour, Lance creates moments for his listeners to reconsider, wonder and breathe. His listeners are invited to step into the stories that Lance finds insitde and outside of himself, to wrestle with how things are and how they should be, and to imagine what being made new could feel like. It’s inside this paradox that Lance lives and creates.
The result is a vibrant, singing contradiction.
"...earthy, real, and real tasty -- a nourishing mix of insightful head and exposed heart. Have a listen -- your toes will tap, your brain will think, your soul will grow." ~ CAROLYN ARENDS [singer-songwriter]
"In Renovation, Odegard demonstrates that he is not only an accomplished musician, but spans such a variety of styles that he successfully takes listeners on a journey that they can relate to. His music is not only pleasing to the ear, it''s like water to a thirsting soul." ~ ROBYN ROSTE [CFBX Radio Kamloops, BC]
“Lance Odegard is an ‘old soul’ in a young man’s body. He sings of the ‘permanent things’ in life and reminds us afresh of the deep truths of the gospel without ever making those truths sound religious or confining. Lance pushes the buttons of where we all live and offers us insights that we can identify with. Plus he''s darn great to listen to !!!" ~ ROY SALMOND [Whitewater Productions, Surrey, BC]
