Details:
If you really want to get a taste of Roosevelt Dime, you are best off going to one of their underground "blind pig" parties in NYC. The band has revived a century old tradition, popularized during the last depression, of charging for an attraction (such as a pig), then featuring complimentary cocktails and entertainment resulting in an evening of unrivaled revelry. It is reported that during the 20''s and early 30''s before the end of prohibition, there were as many as 100,000 blind pigs in NYC alone, which were a lower-class alternative to the more ritzy "speakeasy." In a time when incomes are stretched and pennies are pinched, folks are gravitating towards this rebirth of an age-old tradition, and are still finding the means to see Roosevelt Dime. Part of their appeal comes from the scope of their musical influences. With a deep dedication to all things American music both new and old, Roosevelt Dime has crafted a unique sound that''s equally at home in an old time reel as a second line slow drag, while still incorporating more modern indie-rock and alt-country offerings as well. The unconventional lineup of banjo (Andrew Green), electric bass (Eben Pariser), and drums (Tony Montalbano) walks the line between modern and traditional, Hi-Fi and Lo-Fi, like few bands can. Featuring a dynamic mix of rock, soul, country, and blues, along with some Dixieland jug circus music thrown in for good measure, they''ve got a mixed-bag sound often compared to The Band and Ollabelle, but clearly have a voice all their own singing out from fertile streets of Brooklyn, NY. Their debut album, Crooked Roots, displays their diverse songwriting and arrangements supported at times by a horn section, pedal steel, and bagpipes.
