Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. I was born five days after Christmas and waiting anxiously for me to come into the world was my Grammy who had made the trip from Maine especially to be there for my arrival. Every Christmas since, I have spent with my Grammy. This year, plans changed when my Grammy became ill with cancer. For the first time since I was born she was too ill to make the trip. I recorded this version of Ave Maria as my gift to her and as my special prayer for her recovery. On the recording you can hear the beautiful Hawaiian slack key guitar sounds of my Uncle Albert Kaai which gives the classical song an island feel.
Christmas Island is a favorite of mine during the holiday season. I first learned to sing and dance to this mele with my choir. You can hear my Uncle Albert on ukulele and Hawaiian slack key guitar on this track which makes me want to dance every time I hear it!
