Bio:

Alex Davis is a Los Angeles native Singer/Songwriter and Transman who is dedicated to playing music that makes people feel uplifted and understood. In 2004, he began touring local Acoustic Rock venues, leaving audiences awed and moved by his phenomenal talent and raw emotion. He grew up in a music entertainment oriented family, who sang together regularly. He was encouraged to take piano and guitar lessons from an early age and he enjoyed being the center of attention when he performed for family and friends, except during piano recitals when it involved dressing up in fancy girl''s clothing, which was not so unusal as it may sound, considering the fact that Alex was born a girl. He still refers to his childhood, however, as being "his" childhood because to him, that''s what it was. Regardless of what other people saw him as, he was growing up as a boy inside, a very talented, very different boy.

He started playing guitar in bands with boys he knew from school as early as age 11, covering songs by bands such as Weezer and Green Day, and Nirvana. He became competitive, finding that he related more to boys than girls and wanted to impress them. Like most Transgendered people, Alex found puberty to be an extremly inconvenient, affecting his confidence as a person among his friends, and as a performer. The solution at the time was creating a strong bond with his male guitar teacher, who teased Alex often, saying he looked like Shannon from Blind Melon, which of course, was encouraging. His range of influences widened, incorporating the Beatles, the Clash, Jeff Buckley, blues artists, and later Elliott Smith. He took to practicing alone for hours in his room, later acquiring a small tape recorder to record music and lyrics he had written.
Upon entering high school, Alex attempted to create a new identity for himself. He picked up the drums and formed a pop punk band with a couple of guy friends. Things changed dramatically when he realized he couldn''t make himself fit in with his straight young guy friends, he would never be "one of them". He couldn''t pretend he was romantically attracted to boys anymore, and began telling close friends that he was attracted to girls, not yet directly admitting to anyone else that he felt male inside. After coming out as a lesbian, he found himself mostly uninterested in the lesbian community, and eventually, after trying to get involved with the dyke music scene, he dropped it and accepted that he didn''t fit in there either. Frequently despondent and without a band, Alex began writing songs on acoustic guitar and piano that reflected honestly his turbulant emotions and versatile musical range. Mentors and friends advised him to play at open mics and small venues. He liked performing, and got such strong responses from people that in 2006, much to the dismay of his family, he deferred enrollment to UC Berkeley and instead stayed in LA to pursue a career in music as a Singer/Songwriter.

Since then, he has continued to write, record, and develop musically while performing acoustically as well as with backup bands at numerous places around town, including the Key Club, The Derby, The Viper Room, and Room 5. He opened for The Cliks at the Knitting Factory and Joss Stone at LA PRIDE 2008. Being hailed as "one of the Top 5 up and coming solo artists" by Music Connection Magazine, Alex Davis is a Transman to be reconked with. His debut album, "The Awkward Longing", was recently released in February of 2009. His lyrics have been described as raw and relatable, and his music as innovative and provocative. In the summer of 2007, when Alex came out as trans, he, like anyone who becomes honest about who they are, has found transitioning to be incredibly freeing and exciting. He is looking forward to further exploring himself and music and the world while continuing to play music that makes people feel good.
