Ken Ollis draws from a vast well of musical influences to create music that is earthy, lyrical, and, above all, honest. His debut CD “Confluence” features his expressive style of composing coupled with his deep, and agile, sense of time.
Ollis is a drummer and composer from Portland, OR. He has performed extensively throughout the US, Canada, and Europe, and played with a variety of musicians including: Kenny Werner, Ingrid Jensen, Julian Priester, Bud Shank, The Drifters, John Stowell, Darrell Grant, John Gross, Dan Balmer, Chata Addy, Rob Blakeslee, Rich Halley, Glen Moore, and many others. Most recently his projects include work with Dominique Eade, Heather Masse (from The Wailin’ Jennys), Pepe and the Bottle Blondes, Paxselin Quartet, Ben Fowler, and several other groups. Ken has performed at major festivals throughout the region, and on various television, and radio, stations. He is active in the studio, and can be heard on the following releases: Pepe and the Bottle Blondes “Pambrosia”, The Paxselin Quartet "Hollow Earth", Michael Vlatkovich Tritet “Queen Dynamo”, Tom McNalley Trio self-titled, Jane Wright “Southern Songs and Ballads”, Dave Fleschner “At Home” and “Live at McPeets”, and many others. In addition, Ken regularly performs in collaboration with poets, dancers, painters, and cinematographers. His compositions are featured in the repertoire of the Paxselin Quartet, the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble, and in his own groups. He currently teaches at Portland State University, George Fox University, and is an active clinician throughout the country.
