Details:
TThe harp is the instrument of the soul. In ancient Celtic myth, the subtleties of joy, sorrow and peace were first birthed on the harp. Music became a living thing, with an embrace as tender as the gentlest of days. Whatever the occasion, the voice of the harp brightens, nourishes and restores a sense of wonder in the world around us. Jeff Stockton has been touring with his harp, both as a solo performer and with his ensemble of musicians, since 1997.
“Sacred Ground” is the debut recording for Jeff Stockton, featuring nine original compositions – beautiful, soulful and joyful. These contemporary Celtic pieces were inspired by the beauty and simplicity of the natural world, and arranged to reflect the wonder of an unfolding day in the height of Summer. The disc was completed early 2004, and features harp, voice, cello, violin and percussion.
In the recording process, every attempt was made to capture the sense of intimacy that is created during live performance. The result is a recording evoking a range of emotions: with playful pieces that would sound at home in any Irish pub, gentle ballads with lush strings, through more exotic pieces combining eastern modes and strong percussion.
Praise for "Sacred Ground"
‘Eventide’ begins this charming selection of Jeff’s original Celtic tunes played on harp, cello, violin, and percussion. The music is light, airy, and convivial, and Jeff’s mellow baritone lends itself ideally to the thought provoking lyrics of ‘Nightfall’, ‘Sunlight’, ‘Embrace’, ‘Sacred Ground’, and ‘Anamcara’. Combine this with masterful harp playing and sparse – but effective – accompaniment, and the CD brings freshness to traditional Celtic styled music.
Michael Woodhead - Synchronicity Magazine (Western Canada)
“I receive a lot of recordings of harp music…As much as I love the instrument, few recordings distinguish themselves as this one does.”
Walt Haake WDVR’s “The Mists of Avalon” (USA – East Coast radio program)
“ ‘Sacred Ground’ is soothing, reflective, and provides rest for the soul.”
Catholine Butler, music reviewer “Celtic Connections” (Western Provinces & States)
