Lizzie West, 2003’s Artist of the Year for AOL and Entertainment Weekly, has had her work used extensively in film ( Secretary starring James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhall) and T.V. ( Dawson’s Creek, Alias, ThirdWatch, etc) She was also featured singing her song “Holy Road” in a national ad campaign directed by Spike Lee, and toured as an opener for artists such as Chris Isaak and headlined several of her own national tours. In 2007 her songs, "Rope Me in and Smoke Me" and "Thank You" were featured on Showtime’s, The L Word and her song "19 Miles to Baghdad" has been featured 6 times on Democracy Now!
In 2004, Lizzie left the label to record on her own. During this time Lizzie went through a personal tragedy with the loss of both of her parents to cancer. These life changing experiences served to transform her as an artist and led to the independent release of the deeply personal and politically charged “ I Pledge Allegiance to Myself” .
The new album, made in collaboration with Baba Buffalo, was greeted by stellar reviews.
“West writes disarming melodies, wraps her songs in beautiful, spare arrangements, and sings them with a beguiling voice.” -Paul E. Comeau
