Richie Havens once wrote: “JP Cousineau’s guitar will never cease to intrigue your imagination”. More recently some of his peers have said: “He masters his instrument“ and “ He has a subtle and delicate touch”
Born in Montreal Canada in the forties, JP began taking guitar lessons from a classmate after watching Elvis Presley on TV and soon discovered a love for jazz. Song writing came naturally. He wrote his first song "Carolyn" for his girlfriend at age 16, and has written over 100 songs over the years.
In 1966 JP met Richie Havens, a folk blues artist who would later become an underground icon of the hippie generation when he appeared at Woodstock. This meeting changed his life forever.
Richie convinced him to develop his talent, offering him a place to stay at his Greenwich Village apartment, and eventually recording JP’s song "Sandy" on his “Mixed Bag” album.
After returning to Montreal JP joined Fran and Gilles Losier, a folk duet with jazz influences. They toured US colleges from New York to the Midwest for several months and ended up in New York City where Richie produced their only album: "Montreal A Summer''s Night".
In the 70’s JP formed his own dance band which toured eastern Canada for several https://www.tradebit.com band called Trans-Action also played some original music and had a fan club. During this time JP developed his writing skills and wrote and produced several advertising “jingles” for radio and television.
In the late 80''s JP decided to take a hiatus from music and at the age of 40 enrolled at Concordia University where he completed a BA in Communication Studies. Eventually he missed music and got a job teaching guitar at a private music school. After several years he was inspired by his students to play and write again, which ultimately led to the creation of this CD.
“In Your Arms” is a collection of instrumental music written in the last few years with the exception of “Sandy”, which was written in the 60’s. It is difficult to categorize this music. Although it has overtones of smooth jazz and world beat styles, it is quite different and original.
