Details:
Frank Boxberger plays the Chapman Stick® on all of the tracks. This unique instrument combines bass and guitar sounds together for a very original sound of style.
Jeff Ocheltree not only plays incredible drums, but the three songs that have vocals are sung by Jeff. His singing style has been compared to a cross between Sting and Seal.
As one of Arizona’s premiere Chapman Stick® artists, Frank Boxberger generates excitement each time he performs. Whether playing with his own band, session work or solo, audiences are often introduced to this unique instrument by Frank. This Instrument goes way above and beyond Guitar, Bass and Piano. Combining 7 Octaves with the capability of playing bass lines, chords and melodies/leads simultaneously. While still even expanding the sound limits with separate effects on the bass side vs. the lead side not to even mention the midi/synthesizer capabilities. Because the "Stick" is a string instrument (pianos is a percussion instrument) the stick allows the players style and feel to be heard through the instrument. The Stick allows bends, hammer-ons, hammer-offs, slides, muted notes, tremolo, etc.) The Stick® incorporates the range of both a guitar and a bass while employing a two-handed tapping technique. This method allows two rhythms to be played simultaneously with each hand playing a different part. "This is the instrument that I was always searching for. It enables me to incorporate my early bass, guitar and piano training with my love for the low end sound of the bass", explains Boxberger.
With his debut album, "Axe to Grind", Boxberger set out to create sounds not yet heard on the music scene. Along with not incorporating only Stick playing, this Album includes the brilliant Sax Playing of Dan Young along with unbelievable vocals and percussion/drums of Jeff Ocheltree. Jeff also plays some of the keyboards hear throughout the CD. George Chadwick actually appears in two songs with his monstrous grand piano playing. , Boxberger utilized the range of tones of his Chapman Stick®, a twelve-string version of the instrument. The result is a combination of improvised Jazz/Fusion/rock with techno and ambient undertones
