Performance Artist / Songwriter Steffon Moody has a talent for pulling the pants off of the socially acceptable without getting punched. His scathing musical wit not only fells Corporate Power, Corrupt Regimes, and the Monotheistic McMedia Cult that serves them, but also takes aim at anything too Politically Correct. Add to that the powerful vocal and performance presence of partner in crime, Arlette Moody, and you get UNITED SHEEP- sworn to the causes of Truth, Justice and Live Shows that sizzle with the heat of a crowd, giddy with irreverence.
The 10 song, self titled CD, "United Sheep," features Steffon & Arlette, along with special guest appearances. Produced with a light touch by Jeff Zittrain (of Bay Area band "Famous Last Words"), the song is king. Steffon''s acoustic guitar, colorful voice and razor-sharp lyrics anchor the disc, with various tracks getting tasteful added flavors of keys, 2nd guitar, bass, or percussion from the talented Vashon (and beyond) community. The performances are great because they serve the unique character of each song.
United Sheep has already created a buzz in both music and political circles. It has earned radio airplay across the country and energized crowds with exciting performances at rallies and music clubs in Seattle, Vashon, California and Oregon, including Jim Hightower''s "Rolling Thunder Democracy Festival." United Sheep was flown to Boston by the Kucinich Campaign to perform at rallies outside the Democratic Convention.
United Sheep puts its money where its mouth is. Proceeds from two cd release parties and 20% of CD sales go to the BACKBONE CAMPAIGN, a Vashon Island-based grassroots organization of national scope, which uses beauty, humor and old fashioned organizing to embolden the Democratic Party. Explains Steffon: "Collaborating with the Backbone Campaign attaches our music to a movement in line with our philosophy. The Backbone Campaign says, ''Politicians need to have some spine'' and we''re saying ''Society behaves like a herd!''"
Bios
STEFFON MOODY - singer, guitarist- began songwriting 16 years ago when he moved to the Northwest from the midwest and was inspired by the local folk scene. He founded, performed and wrote music with the renowned UMO Ensemble, new wave folk-rock band GOOD DOG, and art-rock band RUMPUS. Steffon & Arlette have received accolades for their recent macabre cabaret musical DARK CARNY directed by Kevin Kent of world-famous theater group TEATRO ZINZANNI. They bring an explosive presence to the stage as a result of their skill as physical performers.
The BACKBONE CAMPAIGN is a Vashon Island-based grassroots organization of national scope, seeking to rescue the Democratic Party from irrelevance. According to founder Bill Moyer, "The Backbone Campaign uses beauty, humor and old fashioned organizing to embolden the Democratic Party. We are literally and figuratively bringing the Democrats a backbone, in the form of both an agenda and a 70 foot backbone festival puppet, that will be paraded at the Democratic National Convention in Boston."
