JOHN WHITE is the new modern-classic lyric vocalist and producer from New York City. His debut album Simple Vow delivers stunningly powerful yet well-balanced performance and production, while never overshadowing his talent for crafting and arranging great songs.
John began his musical path long before coming into his voice. His first instrument was jazz saxophone. “I was drawn to the sound of the alto because of its expressiveness and similarity to the human voice,” he says. Soon John found his love for classical music in his high school’s madrigal choir. Continuing his vocal studies out side of school under the tutelage of New York’s finest teachers and coaches like Jane Bunnell, Eduardo Valdes, Carolann Page, Sharon Sweet, and Arthur Levy, his gift ultimately brought him to study at NYU on full scholarship.
While still in college and continuing thereafter John discovered his natural acting ability, which combined with his superior vocal talent drew him to perform in a variety of professional touring operas, Broadway, and off-Broadway including Tosca, Cherubin, Jesus Christ Superstar, 42nd Street, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Sound of Music, and Hello Dolly, to name a few.
Ever the musical Renaissance man, John uncovered yet another talent: music engineering and producing. Says John, “I realized that as a producer I have the ability to combine all the aspects of my musical interests while providing support and direction to other artists.” Studying with Grammy-nominated and platinum-selling engineer Scott Noll gave John the necessary tools to open his own facility – Midtown Sound Studios – in January 2002. Since its inception, John has had the privilege of working with some of the finest artists in genres ranging from classical, jazz, world fusion, folk, rock, Latin and hip-hop, including Chic Corea, Ron Carter, James Moody, Jane Monheit, Bob Belden, Bob Parsons Big Band, Lil’ Kim, DJ Logic, Shawn Pelton, Richard Gere, Whoopi Goldberg, Goldie Hawn, The New Jersey Opera, and served as chief engineer for R&B producer Seven Aurelius. John’s recordings and compositions have appeared on HBO, A&E, The History Channel, PBS and Nickelodeon as well as on Sony, BMG, Blue Note and Columbia Records, among others.
