The combination voice, bass and drums create an infrequent and open room for nikas compositions, arranged and complete by the team. The band is surfing on soft-limber ballads, beaty-open tunes and erratic songs in wich the borders between jazz and avantgarde music seems to melt. In the songs wich are written in english Nika reveals hers and other people’s way of thinking in an ironical but pensiv way. There is no fear to use different musical styles, toys and other sound sources. The bassplayer Raphael Preuschl is taking you on a trip to labyrinthine ways, acting attendant and solistic. Herbert Pirker’s raging drumming contens the sound of every clinging pot, tray and bell he could find. The creative complexity each of them is playing with, convince the audience. (hää?? – oder so ähnlich). Above all that floats the smooth and clear voice of Nika Zach. It is music. Music between riven jazziness and bizzare beauty.
Nikasteam is now presenting the new CD “little boat”, and again the band shows an open and fresh way to handle songs. It is a substantial contribution to experimental Jazzscene. The twelve songs were all written by Nika Zach and arrangend by Nikasteam. They recorded at a studio and live. The title “little boat” Nika defines: “to be on the way on a little boat means to be very free and flexible. From that point of view you can see a lot and you can get everywhere. Even if you don’t know where to go, you can get on by drifting. The water is carring you. For me an allegory for making music.”
