Roberto Dani was born in Vicenza, Italy in 1969.
He began playing drums at the age of 7. Between ''89 and ''92, he recorded with the "Devil Doll", a rock-progressive band which reached the highest recognition in Europe, South Korea and Japan.
Between ''92 and ''93, he took part at various projetcs focused on contemporary european music.
In ''94, thanks to a scholarship, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston for a short period, where he played with the best-known teachers like Hal Crook and met Finnish piano player Mika Pohjola with whom he toured Europe, USA, Japan and recorded for various broadcasting companies like YLE (Finland), SR (Sweden) and BBC Wales.
In ''97 he collaborate with trumpeter/composer Kenny Wheeler who had featured with the Italian pianist Glauco Venier.
In ''98 he recorded ballet''s music for "Teatro La Scala" in Milano, composed by Carlo Boccadoro.
In ''98 he created his first band "Images" with vocalist Norma Winstone, cellist Henning Sieverts and pianist Glauco Venier.
In the beginning of 2000, he created his new trio "Interférences" with the french tuba player Michel Godard and american trumpet player Kyle Gregory.
In 2002 a new quartet "Instants"began; the line-up includes clarinet player Louis Sclavis, cellist Vincent Courtois and trumpet player K. Gregory.
In 2003 he began his first Solo performance which represents now his main project.
Most of his work is based on improvisation and the borders between improvised and written music.
He often performs with actors in contemporary theatre''s shows like "Luce Nera" and "Non ricominciamo la guerra di Troia" (for six drums ensemble and actress Patricia Zanco), Stefano Benni''s "Baldanders", "Oscillazioni" by Vitaliano Trevisan and composed original music for some of Trevisan''s theatre''s works such as Quattro Stanze con bagno and Solo RH.
Among the latest collaborations are RAM with Michele Tadini on live sampling and a duet with pianist/singer Annette Peacock.
In Italy, he regulary performs/records with Giorgio Gaslini Chamber Trio, Stefano Battaglia Ensemble, Alberto Pinton, various ensemble with bassist Roberto Bonati, Luciano Biondini Trio, Duo Klang.
During his career, he played in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Scotland, England, Wales, France, Germany, Austria, Israel, Portugal, Africa, South America, Mexico and Japan.
He also played with Ralph Alessi, Ben Monder, Drew Gress, Mick Goodrick, Erik Friedlander, Dave Liebman, Al Di Meola, Roberto Fabbriciani, Enea Salmeggia Chamber Orchestra and many others.
The discography includes more than 60 Cds.
