Michael Aragon was the first musician I met when I returned to California and moved to my new home in Sausalito. He hired me to play at the No Name Bar. I would walk down to the No Name on Friday nites to hear his quartet. We worked well together. On AM radio, as the stratosphere rose, in the cooler early morning hours, a kid in Milwaukee could tune in John R at WLAC in Nashville, Wolfman Jack in Del-Rio, and a New Orleans station that offered 10, 45’s of promising new artists delivered monthly. He did his homework and his love for blues, R & B, and jazz has provided him the privilege of touring and/or recording with Freddy King, Albert Collins, Link Ray, Michael Bloomfield, Sunnyland Slim, Luther Tucker, John Lee Hooker, Little Willie Littlefield, Hart McNee, Stephen Miller, Elvin Bishop, Big Walter Horton and many other amazing artists. He has been a player and producer on Geanie Stout’s albums and collaborated on film scores that include the 2007 release of Land of Shadowed Sand. He loves bass fishing , Texas, Bass playing in california …. but most of all he is proud of his son, Wylie Maercklein.

Ron is originally from Texas but is a long time San Franciso resident.
Rob Roth
Robert Roth is a Jazz artist and an educator since 1988 and has performed internationally as a bandleader and sideman. Currently performing in and around the Bay Area, Rob has been performing with some of the top musicians and with local stars. His credits include Lavay Smith, Mel Martin, Marcus Shelby and many more. He recently returned from a 2-week tour of Portugal with Blue Note recording artist Jacinta Carvalho.A native of Philadelphia, Rob has performed with musicians such as Mikey Roker, Uri Caine, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Shirley Scott, Joey DeFrancesco, Christian McBride, Ralph Peterson, Charles Fambrough and John Swana. He attended the University Of Michigan and is a graduate of Temple University with a degree in Jazz performance.
An avid chef and youth mentor, Rob joined Savor the Moment in 2000 as co-owner and chief of operations quickly taking the small business to new heights. Rob’s musical training and years of teaching make him a creative and insightful leader from website design development, promotions, program development,Rob has set the stage for the growth of the innovative Generation Chefs youth-to-youth culinary educational program. At the Marin Youth Center, Rob will have a chance to combine teaching, mentoring cooking and his lifetime love of music onto powerful programs for young people.
Erik von Buchau vibraphone piano drums all percussion …his own cd …. “Contrasts”
Erik von Buchau has been playing music as long as he can remember. A born percussionist, he was banging on pots and pans before he could walk. Erik started his career as a jazz musician at age of 15, playing the drumset. By the time he was twenty, he had played gigs on drums with jazz notables Joe Farrel, Bruce Forman, Laurindo Almeida and Mark Levine.
“I started playing the vibes at the age of 15 but didn’t seriously study them until the age of 28, when I immersed myself in the learning of standards, blues, rhythm changes and all other parts of the jazz vocabulary that I could find. I am always striving to write music that reaches for something that I have not previously expressed. Something fresh and new . With the exception of Inner Urge and Fall, all the compositions on the Contrasts cd are my original compositions.”

Steve Webber Acoustic Bass “one take webber”
Steve Webber has been playing been an active member of the bay area music scene since the 1970’s and while studying at school he has always kept active working with many bands and orchestra’s from musical productions to club dates with local blues artists and especially Jazz bands of all sizes. Steve has always been craving to keep busy with music and enjoys constantly working and playing out as much as possible. Steve never stopped attending school and has been active at SRJC since 1990. Playing with Bennet Friedman’s woodwind ensemble and the Award winning SRJC big band. Steve has had the pleasure of performing with Jack Sheldon, Art Farmer, Mel Martin, Steve Smith George Graham , and Don Menza. While working in San Francisco , Steve has done shows with Buddy Guy and Jr. Wells, Chuck Berry, Bonnie Rait, Carlos Santana and Heuy Lewis and The News. Currently Steve enjoys working as much as possible and has made a career out of being first call as a sub for many bay area band leaders such as Benny Barth, Terry Henry, Si Perkoff, Susan Sutton, Randy Vincent, Leo Cavanaugh, Barry Schiffman, Yolanda Nickell, Vernelle Anders, and Michael Aragon. Steve gets around the entire bay area and you never know where he may be on any weekend of the the year. Steve is well loved by all leaders and the list of bands he works with keeps growing. Steve is currently a member of “The Dick Conte Quartet and is on two of his cd’s. One “Live at San Jose Jazz fest 2001 and the other is “Slow Hot Wind”, both featuring Steve Heckman on saxophone. A favorite gig for Steve Weber is the No Name Bar with Michael Aragon whom he has done many a night with such notables as Jay Thomas, Rob Roth, Yoland Nickel, Al Molina, Adam Shulman, Art Khu, John Mackay and guitarist Ray Scott. This list of bay are musicians keeps growing because of Steve’s ability to fit in many musical situations and because he has a very easy going attitude. Steve Webber is the bass player .
Terry Henry piano, bass, trumpet composer and singer The Terry Henry Trio
An alumnus of the acclaimed North Texas University jazz program, the multi talented Henry has performed with some of the top names in jazz, including Charlie Haden, Bill Evans, Eddie Henderson and Chet Baker. Henry’s trumpet skills were displayed last year as a guest soloist with the Okland’s East Bay Symphony Orchestra. Many compositions that Terry Henry performs are Henry’s own. His tightly knit trio has been playing together for years in the Bay Area. Led by pianist, trumpeter, bassist Terry Henry, the trio has appeared at numerous jazz festivals, clubs and concerts in addition to a long running residence at Crockett’s Valona Deli. Every Sunday they play their hearts out at Terry’s deli. His drummer Bill Moody ( toured with jr. Mance, Earl Fatha Hines Maynard Ferguseion and vocalists Jon Hendricks and Lou Rawls ) . Moody is also the author of the Evan Horne Jazz mystery novels. The most recent is Looking for Chet Baker. Bill draws a lot of his writing from those many years with Terry Henry and their many close ties and longtime jazz musicians. Terry Henry is a musical genius. Geanie Stout has known Terry beginning with their long association at the Bull Valley Inn. He recorded a cd at Coast in San Francisco with Geanie in the 80’s. Terry Henry is great musician and composer and now a singer… he can reach out and touch you with his music.
Joel Jaffe : guitar and studio D
Joel Jaffe is an award winning engineer producer, composer, and studio owner. He has worked on a number of Grammy albums and has been instrumental in developing new talent in the bay area for over twenty years.
A member of The Recording Academy and board member for the last 12 years as well as an A.E.S. member , Joel has conducted seminars on recording in the real world for San Francisco State and Sonoma State Recording arts programs, as well as a teacher for Pyramid media and music production school.

Walter Savage’s new offering “Autumn’s Witch “ reflects his innovative style and approach to jazz composition. All the tunes on the cd are Walter’s creations. According to Haybert Houston, co-Publisher of “Jazz Now Interactive”, I believe some, if not all, of these tunes will become standards one of these days , and we’ll look forward to more of Walter Savage’s creations.”
Known mostly as a jazz bassist, Walter has proven himself as singer, pianist and composer as well. He graced his listeners with his unique vocals on his debut CD , ”Soothes the Savage Beast “ ….on this cd Walter’s compositional skills are expertly displayed by top notch musicians who work exceedingly well together. Art Hirahara, Jazz pianist , an awesome performer…al bent trombone , Babtunde Lea , a leading bay area percussionist .David Ferrazares, on the soprano saxophone, lends a unique sensitivity to the title track.
From 1963 to the present, Walter has appeared in the rhythm sections for Tony Scott, Gerald Wilson, Mary Jenkins, Horace Tapscott, Taj Mahal, Gloria Lynn, Sonny Chris and Arthur Blythe, to name a few. Walter has also appeared with Bobby Hutcherson at Hermosa Beach’s famed Lighthouse Jazz Club.
In the Bay Area ,Walter has worked with the likes of David (Fathead) Newman, John Handy, Pharaoh Sanders and Richie Cole, Harold Jones, Donald Bailey and Mary Stallings (jazz cruises).
Walter is working actively as a teacher and works a full schedule of club, casual and concert performances around the San Francisco bay area. Regular venues for this talented artist include Jazz at Pearls in North Beach , Enrico’s The Black Cat, Yoshi’s in Jack London Square, Napa Valley wineries and numerous festivals including San Francisco’s Fillmore Street Fair, the Union Street Festival and the Vallejo Shoreline Jazz, Art And Wine Festival. .The (KCSM) disc jocky … Jesse “chuy” Varela dj Kcsm , calls Walter Savage , “the bass player’s bass player” .

Ken “Snakebite” Jacobs. Played or recorded with: Temptations, the ojays, neveille bros., kinky friedman, the dells, the mills bros., N.O. Nightcrawlers, and more. Snakebite was a sideman and bandleader in New Orleans for over twenty-five years. Snakebite plays the tenor sax , baritone sax and the clarinet.
