Christian Piatt''s relationship has been a lifelong love affair. Described as both powerful and melodic, soulful and subtle, Christian''s singer-songwriter style has influences from jazz, blues, soul, acoustic, and adult alternative genres.
"I see most of the world through the prism of music," says Piatt. "The full spectrum of human experience and emotions can be expressed musically, most often in very simple but effective ways.
As professional author and columnist, Christian focuses on the importance of lyrics, beyond simply being a tool to carry melody. "Too often, people fall back on cliche phrases and the same old scenarios for their songs," says Piatt, "trying to hard to sound like someone else instead of taking the risk to express themselves in a fresh, new way.
Christian''s eclectic musical training and performance background have melded into a personal voice and tone that is familiar, yet unique. "Playing with jazz artists, hard rock guys, folk artists and other singer-songwriters really has formed my understanding of what I want my music to be and where I want it to go," says Piatt.
Part of the foundation of Christian''s musical philosophy is steeped in the notion of re-inventing themes of faith with more substance and raw energy than has been done previously. "If you call yourself a ''Christian artist,'' whatever that means," he says, "you''re immediately pigeonholed as part of the breathy-vocals and string-patch keyboard movement. But there are guys like Ben Harper, U2, Lenny Kravitz, Nickel Creek and Kelly Joe Phelps have made something truly amazing out of their worldviews, not setting aside their beliefs, but weaving them into their art. Ultimately, that''s where I want to be."
