During the year 2001, Mann and Manzano, already a dynamic force, were in the process of laying tracks down for their debut album when the unforgettable events on 9/11 occurred. The somber news of the fallen heroes and all the lives that were lost, drove this talented duo of musicians to further pour their very souls into the project. Each song, as created in the flames of their hearts, lures us with its melancholic lullabies, telling tear-surging stories of love, fear, betrayal and above all else... change.
Each track gives us a fresh, live feeling in the vintage style of unending rock & roll, and reminding us of the "Unplugged" sessions of our generation. Thrown in are some clever Sound FX between songs and we''re automatically whisked away towards the dark side of the Floyd, that made them a poplar icon of American rock.
The MoonDog''s debut album screams through endless musical barriers, blending 50''s style doo-wop, the blues, acoustic folk and emo rock. One of the first songs believed to have led the way to what would come was "This One''s For You", which according to Dave, was written accidentally and without any planning.
"I woke one night with this melody in my head. It was constant, beautiful..." states Manzano. "I just couldn''t go back to sleep." So he did what any great songwriter would have done. "I picked up my guitar and started ramming away, the sounds emanating like a mystery unsolved. The first thing that came to me in those first moments was how inspired I probably became by the Beatles'' "You''re Gonna Lose That Girl".
Spanish influence was also a big feature found in The MoonDog''s keen writing method, with songs like "Sin Ti" and "Caido" opening the stage for a combined use of ''Spanglish''. Truly, it''s safe to state that it makes ''This One''s For You'' an ear-pleasing soundtrack for your every listening need, with ballads that are not just romantic and emotional, but bordering on an insane dream and backed up by Mann''s lyrical sincerity.
It is said that there''s a story behind everything, a series of chapters where a hero either triumphs or becomes destroyed through his own indecisions and regrets. This, my friends, is a tale of surrealistic passion and of the realities we choose to live in.
The MoonDog''s CD is music for those who know what it is to have lost, hopeless romantics on every spin, the basics of humanity seeking answers towards the ethereal tunnel''s end.
Brace yourselves. The storm is near, catapulting waves in an angry sea of sorrow. That bottled letter we''d once written for our one and true love? Its journey finally ends. Look no further. This one''s for you...
