Here are some questions we get asked alot..
Why this name?
we saw it graffitied on a rock in ohio in 1995
Do you play live?
we play regionally in and around chicago. every night is an experience and not what most people expect. goldie(violin) has an eccentric stage presence to say the least, christy(bass)is extremely smooth and rocks out with the best of them, ross (drums) will blow you away, and yvonne will do her best to knock you over with her rocker-girl "growl"
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
folks from all around the world listen and buy our music- very https://www.tradebit.comlo to "joost" from norway!
it''s great for indie''s like us.
Would you still sign a record contract with a major label?
yes, but only if we get to play the "enormo-dome"!
and if there are marshmellows delivered to our dressing room before every show. and if they take all those damn charges off ticketmaster prices!
Band History:
The Locals are quadruplets born many years and many miles apart. To escape endless pursuit by tabloid reporters they play under assumed names: Yvonne Doll (singer/songwriter/acoustic guitar), Dave Goldman (violin) , Christy Nunes (bass) & Ross Rutherford (drums).

Ever had a mad fiddler in your lap? At the Locals'' live shows you may just get that! The Locals are a 4 piece Chicago-based band, with the wildest violinist you will ever see, a bass player who lays down a refreshing combination of skilled and melodic bass lines, a singer who whose voice will amaze you, and let''s not forget the drummer who by all accounts could be Chicago''s best kept secret. All this combined with rock solid, lyrically superb, catchy songs that keep you be singing along and toe tapping!
The Locals sound is a spicy acoustic rock sonic cocktail! The recipe goes something like this: start with some No Doubt and Melissa Etheridge. Throw some Dave Matthews in there and swirl it around with a dash of Ani Difranco, served up in a sweaty 20 oz rocket red tumbler. Yum!
The Locals latest release, Baby Buddhas and Little Einsteins
was engineered and co-produced by Martin Stebbing (poi dog pondering) and includes guest artists: Summer Chance (vocals) and Katarina Van Epps (cello)

"I loved their set! Very high energy, and very interesting! I love the way that the Locals combine David Goldman''s violin and Yvonne Doll''s driving acoustic guitar with the high energy rhythm section of Christy Nunes on bass and Ross Rutherford on drums"
https://www.tradebit.com, Mark Lush (on the Locals'' set at the Midwest Music Conference)
"[Yvonne] Doll''s singing and playing (guitar) are refreshingly fierce and liberating. But Doll has surrounded herself with a mesmerizing band. Christy Nunes on bass immediately got into that funky groove woman thing that only truly funky women can do. Basher Ross Rutherford pummeled his kit with rushing power one instant, then slinky quiet charm the next. But David Goldman just about stole the show. Slicing notes off his violin with teeth-clenching abandon, down on his knees, playing on his back, the man was fucking possessed."
-Vern Hester,Live Review: Nevins Live 02
"..the Locals are a band that combines so many elements to create an awesome sound, that''s why! They have done what Mellencamp did in the 80''s, and what Dave Matthews did in the 90''s; they''ve combined a really awesome rhythm section (Christy Nunes on bass and Ross Rutherford on drums) with a driving acoustic guitar (Yvonne Doll) and melodies over the top provided by violinist David Goldman. This is no folksy rock band, mind you! It is an acoustic rock and roll sound that is over-the-top energetic; one that I enjoy very much!
The Locals, as individual performers, pack a lot of energy into the music that they play. No member leans on another for drive; each has enough energy to carry the entire show! Combined, they create an incredibly powerful live set that sounds much bigger than the lineup of players! It is a rich, full sound that makes you move. You just can''t help it!
Baby Buddhas and Little Einsteins is a great new collection of tunes from the Locals. Still present are the driving rhythm (which, all too often gets lost in a studio) with the melodic lines of violinist David Goldman trading licks with vocalist Yvonne Doll. All of the tracks are strong, but I think my two favorites are "Dear" and "Backyard Stars". The latter begins with a beautiful melody jam by David Goldman over the rhythm section, all accompanied at one point by a cello. It is a very cool, beautiful, and haunting song! "Dear" begins in much the same way, but evolves into a real rocker! I think the thing that grabs me with this song is the chorus. The chorus has a great vocal hook that wraps the whole song up for me. These two songs alone are worth the cost of the CD!
All in all, this release builds upon My Kind of Freak, and displays a group of musicians evolving into a tight-knit unit. When Baby Buddhas and Little Einsteins becomes available, be sure to pick up a copy! You''ll want to learn all the words to the songs, so that when you go see The Locals (and you will!) you''ll be able to participate!---" - Mark Lush, https://www.tradebit.com, 11/02
