Indie soul-blues two piece. Daughter of an old r&b drummer plays guitar and sings till her stomach hurts. She taught a guitarist how to play the drums and it was all over. She Keeps Bees'' got soul.
"Jessica Larrabee (vocals, guitar) and Andy LaPlant (drums, recording) are from Brooklyn but might as well be from Detroit or Nashville (or somehow both), and not from the year 2007 but 1974 or 2016 (or somehow both)... inevitable comparisons to similar blues-influenced two piece rockers such as The Black Keys and The White Stripes are somewhat accurate, but there are subtle layers to peel back, revealing influences such as Verve Records legend Nina Simone, the lovelorn blues of Patti Smith and Van Morrison, and modern contemporaries such as Mazzy Star and Cowboy Junkies. Recorded this past summer at Gradwell House Studios in Haddon Heights, NJ, this EP is the follow-up to the 2006 release Minisink Hotel, which was played and recorded entirely by Ms. Larrabee.
