Jan Spillane is an energetic singer/songwriter from Savannah, GA. Captivating her audiences with her soulful voice, crafty lyrics, & eclectic style, you can tell she loves what she does. Her singing and songwriting sits well among the genre of Contemporary & Modern Americana Folk Blues.
Some of her all time favorite musicians include Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, Janis Ian, Billie Holliday, Trisha Yearwood, Sting, Van Morrison, Don Henley, Bruce Cockburn, James Taylor, Bruce Hornsby, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Harry Chapin, John Mellencamp, and the list goes on...................
She performs solo as well as with some her longtime talented friends Ben Wells, John Banks, Jack Sherman, Michael McDougald, Allen Andrews, Annie Allman, Marc Cordray, Tommy Butler and has also shared the stage with a number of great artists including Dan Seals, Greg Williams, Mike Stewart, D.T. Jan has collaborated with some of the finest producers and mastering engineers including the legendary Phil Hadaway (Mick Jagger, Gregg Allman, Diane Reeves, Tammy Wynette, Drivin-n-Cryin, etc.), Rick Bowen who has worked along side with David Foster (Celine Dion, Soundtrack for "Hunt for Red October", etc.), Kevin Rose, a 2007 IBMA Bluegrass Nominee for Recorded Event of the Year (Vassar Clements, Tony Rice, Derek Trucks, Sam Bush [Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Bella Fleck], etc.), and Brad Blackwood (Sister Hazel, Train, Nine Days, ZZ Top, Richard Leo Johnson Trio, etc.).
She is a current member of ASCAP, NSAI, AMA, & The Recording Academy. Her credits include four impressive CD''s self-released. She was vocalist for the Miller Brewing Company Commercial in 1982. Jan''s ballad from Gut Feeling, "Time Keeps (Remix)", co-written with Phil Hadaway & John Graham was selected in 2000 for the promotional video..."100 Years of Tybee Island". "A Lady Knows When To Leave", from Gut Feeling was selected as one of the Best Original Compositions for R&B/Blues in Billboard Magazine''s 1999 World Competition. In August of 2006, Jan signed a representation agreement with Portia Entertainment Group in Nashville, TN with regards to marketing a National Blue Jeans Commercial which was derived from a song she wrote off her Painting the Blues album, titled "Ole Blue Jeans". Markham Brown of Markham Brown Music in Nashville, TN currently represents her whole catalogue of songs. In 2007, Jan landed her first single song publishing contract on the song "I Know What It''s Not" which she co-wrote with Wood Newton. In 2008, Jan had one of her songs, "If Looks Could Kill", land a spot on one of Showtime Cable Networks popular TV series. Her song will be used to advertise the new season of "The L Word".
She co-writes with a few of Nashville''s finest songwriters, in and out of the country including, Markham Brown, Wood Newton, Stan Webb, Steve Nelson, Michael Boesen, Diana Gibson Kelley. Back in her hometown, she co-writes along with a few talented musicians/songwriters, Ben Wells, Caroline Verner, John Banks, Susan Montanari, Jack Sherman, etc. Wood has many years of hit songs with a number of artists including Steve Warnier along with one of his recent hits performed by David Ball "Riding With Private Malone". Stan Webb''s list of songs begin with George Jones "One Of These Days But Not Tonight”, which landed him the award for SESAC’s most promising country writer, to Tracy Byrds "I''m From the Country which he received SESAC''s Legacy Award for his most successful song to date. Steve Nelson is a two-time winner of the SESAC Americana Music Award, receiving an Emmy nomination for Sesame Street and scored two Emmy-Winning TV series, and contributed to the recent Grammy-nominated Guy Clark album, “Workbench Songs.” He''s written "Songbird" for Barbara Streisand, "Walkin'' Man" which he co-wrote with Guy Clark. His lastest CD “Distance Over Time” features Bruce Hornsby and Guy Clark. Michael has two number one hits in Denmark and has worked on approximately 300 + Disney Cartoons.
