JOHN LIONARONS of Lansdowne, PA is a singer of traditional and contemporary songs, a
multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, teacher, theater artist, recording artist, and award-winning
hammered dulcimer player, having placed five times in the finals of the National Championships in Winfield, KS. John has worked as composer and sound designer for The Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival and Philadelphia Theatre Co., and has appeared in productions at Freedom Theatre, Virginia Stage Co, Peoples'' Light & Theatre Co. and Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. His original music has been nominated twice for Philadelphia’s prestegious Barrymore Award. John plays a dozen acoustic musical instruments including guitar, accordion, fiddle, mandolin, tinwhistle, piano, harmonica, bodhran, and rhythm bones. He has recorded five albums of traditional and original music. His latest CD (The Dulcimer in Old Philadelphia) is a collection of music from colonial America. John has performed all over the U.S. as well as in Italy and The Netherlands. For the last six years has plied his trade regularly throughout Philadelphia’s Historic District, where his spirited playing has been enjoyed by such notables as General George Washington, Dr. Benjamin Franklin, Mrs. Betsy Ross, and Governor Ed Rendell.
