Details:
Lionel O is back! After a moving to Oberlin, Ohio, for college in Fall of 2006, he returned to Minneapolis to record Fool’s Gold in Summer of 2007. And it picks up right where he last left us with Brontosaurus Breakfast; if Brontosaurus Breakfast was Lionel O’s “leaving home” album, then Fool’s Gold is his “I’ve left home” album. By turns jubilant and vulnerable, Fool’s Gold is all about the experience of leaving home as only Lionel O can tell it: with his own quirky brand of humor, out-of-left-field surrealism, and lots of whistling. You’ll still hear traces of Shel Silverstein, Elliott Smith, and The Smashing Pumpkins, but you’ll also hear Lionel O carving out his own distinct voice amid his influences. Fool’s Gold is 11 more songs of catchy, lo-fi guitar pop full of lobsters in drag, motorcycles, trips to outer space, Alice in Wonderland, and mermaids in the sky. And yes, robots too.
