Teodros "Teddy" Makonnen has been a composer, arranger, producer, and masterful music performer for over twenty years. He is one of the elite pioneers, key player and contributor in the development of the Ethiopian "new age" music revolution.
Since his passion for music began at the early age of eight, the natural ability and talent that he acquired were fine-tuned with vigorous piano lessons. In strive for complete satisfaction; he continued his studies later on at the prestigious Yared Music Institute, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Then later at the Virginia College, he took American Jazz.
As a teenager, Teddy, driven by determination and the pure joy of music, continued his musical quest by playing with bands such as the Hot-boys, M. Discos, Shebeles, Dahalaks, and the Ethiostar Band in Addis Abeba. It was during this time that Teddy got to meet and perform with the legendary Bob Marley at the Ghion Imperial Hotel. "Now that was one of the greatest moments and the fondest memory that will linger on," vows Teddy. In the early 80''s, he decided to migrate to America where the possiblities were endless. His career lifted off to greater heights and soon became a public icon.
Throughout his career, he has compiled and created numerous melodic sounds and rhythmical beats that have made his musical compositions distinguishable. His masterful compilations have been soothing the ears of a broad range of listeners, for the past two-decades. Teddy has collaborated, performed, and toured with a
World-class cast of singers, comedians, and musicians.
Some of the tour venues include: London, Italy, France, Germany, Tel- Aviv, Jerusalem, Norway, Sweden; Oslo, Athens, Holland, Geneva; Monterey, and the list goes on... Including Canada and over 30 states in the U.S. In Amsterdam he performed at the World Drum Festival, and at the famous Kennedy Center, in Washington, D.C.
