Details:
D. Ray Polk, who is a native Oklahoma Cityan that has performed and played guitar for over 40 years, continues his expression of diverse musical influences with his 3rd CD, “Backroads Traveler”. Similar to his CD “Home Flight”, his music flows through fusions of New Age, Latin, Jazz, Blues, Folk, and Rock.
D. Ray notes that he incorporated practically all of his guitar collection on this one, including his electric Variax, Epiphone Dot, Stratocaster, as well as acoustic 12-string, nylon, and steel 6-string guitars.
This album is also a mixture of instrumental and vocal songs – all of them D. Ray originals. He incorporates the talents of some of his friends – Mike Mager (piano), Shanda McDonald (violin), her daughter Jenna (flute), and vocal help from wife Sharon Taylor Wilson, Kathy Dagg, Ray Wyssman, Lynn Powell, Mike Lucas, and John Randolph.
Some of these tunes you may find just catchy enough to grow on you a bit, like the Robben Ford-ish “I Got the Line on You Baby”, or the Latin Rock-ish “Zombies of the Night”. “So Long Darlin’ is also a beautiful tribute to the composer’s grandmother Molly Boren.
All in all, once again this latest collection of songs from D. Ray Polk is a result of music that has inspired him over the years (more years than he might care to acknowledge), and we hope that it inspires the listener as well - on many different levels. Enjoy!
