The Vox concert marks a full circle for Ariel Sung. This much anticipated concert is Ariel’s first Taiwan homecoming concert since her immigration to Canada. Early in her career, Ariel provided the singing voice for the Mandarin version of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” and “Cinderella”. Ariel finds full artistic expression through her voice, and she experimented with different singing techniques, ranging from operatic arias to jazz. She is also drawn to the dramatic aspect of voice performance, and in opera, Ariel finds her ideal medium to express the emotive power of songs. Upon coming to Canada, she has received further training and guidance from well known professionals in the field like Bruce Pullan, Marisa Gaetanne, Patricia Plumley, Elizabeth Brodovitch, Clyde Mitchell, Gerald Van Wyck, and Kate Hammett Vaughan.
In addition to her work as a conductor and composer, Ariel has had numerous vocal performances in Canada. In October 2007, she held two solo concerts in Vancouver, and the year after, was chosen to play the lead role in the Vancouver production of “Thunderstorm”, an operatic adaptation by Tang Kang Nian of Cao Yu’s famous play, held at the Vancouver Playhouse.
In August of 2008, Ariel collaborated with award-winning composer Hal Beckett and veteran classical music producer Karen Wilson on the album “Vox”. Recorded at CBC Studio One in Vancouver, “Vox” is Ariel’s debut classical album. The project, directed by Hal Beckett, featured an impressive repertoire of operatic arias by masters like Puccini, Lehar, and Dvorak to name a few. The album also boasts an original arrangement by Hal of Andrea Bocelli’s “Canto Della Terra” sung in the same key by Ariel.
