Zach Lupetin''s groundbreaking LP "The Atomic Mushroom Cloud of Love", his first with the Los Angeles-based The Dustbowl Revival, is his most adventuresome and detailed to date. Featuring over ten local folk musicians including fiddle, lapsteel, mandolin, resonator guitar, Nashville guitar, double bass, trumpet and trombone not to mention his father Jeff Lupetin on blues harp and his sister Lila and a host of talented ladies singing harmonies, "Atomic" is a rip-roaring tour of traditional American music with a thoroughly modern twist. A sort of new-wave jug-band, The Dustbowl Revival’s tunes range anywhere from Jimmie Rodgers-style yodels to Dylan-like folk romps, to Sister Rosetta Tharpe-inspired gospel stomps, to big band ballads, western swing hoe-downs, bebop breakdowns, vaudevillian theatrics even mariachi-flavored marches.
Born in Chicago, Zach Lupetin was classically trained on violin but was turned on to blues and folk music by his father and began writing songs at age 16 on an electric bass. His high school group, Iconoclast, booked bars and clubs across Chicago and while attending The University of Michigan, his blues rock outfit The Midnight Special had the privilege of playing some of the Detroit-area’s most cherished venues such as The Michigan theater, the Mendelssohn Theater, The Cavern Club and The Blind Pig as well performing live on several local radio stations and NPR Detroit.
After three great years and the Midnight Special''s demise Zach started seriously pursuing more traditional acoustic roots music. He released the critically acclaimed "HEAVEN, I''LL MEET YOU THERE" with his Ann Arbor group The Royal Family, fusing traditional Americana, Gospel, Blues & Old Time Country with the sounds of Dylan, Ralph Stanley, Howling Wolf and many others.
After moving to Los Angeles, Zach Lupetin has put together a whole new family of musicians in The Dustbowl Revival and is playing throughout Southern California promoting old-time music though this modern "little big band". They have graced the stages of Safari Sams, The Derby, Tangier, Genghis Cohen, The Cat Club, The Joint, El Cid, M-Bar, Brennan''s Pub, 14 Below, Air Conditioned Lounge, Room 5 Lounge, Unurban Café, Abuelitas, Bordello, The Cinema Bar and more.
