At a wayside inn located in the Colony of New York in 1775, a night-long farewell party sets the stage for a swirl of political intrigue and romantic folly resulting in treasonous plots and a potentially deadly conspiracy.
A new and completely original story for the musical stage, "Fair Liberty''s Call" is based on surprising glimpses into the true history of the Revolutionary War era. It deals with the conflicting emotions that faced Americans in those politically-charged times and, especially, with the fervent hope of many African-Americans that a general emancipation would come to America''s slaves as a result of freedom from Great Britain.
"Fair Liberty''s Call" boasts a score fashioned from authentic Colonial era music and offers a variety of captivating period songs and dances. Political anthems portray the fiery clashes between rabble-rousing American Patriots and the resolute Loyalist American majority, while passions are tempered by haunting ballads, beloved lullabies, and inspirational spirituals. Yet, all the while, a shivaree of lively tavern songs and sly ditties provides the backdrop for an uproarious evening''s entertainment.
The timeless lyrics are eloquent and contain age-old sentiments that speak directly to the heart of the human condition.
